  • Adjunct Assistant Professor.  Columbia University in the City of New York.  Joint appointment in the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Biology (E3B) and The Sustainable Development Program of the Earth Institute.  New York, NY.   2013 – 2018.

    • Taught graduate and undergraduate courses in 1) GIS for Ecology, and 2) Spatial Analysis for Sustainable Development for the E3B Department and the Sustainable Development Program.

    • Developed lectures, labs, exam materials, presentations, guest speaker series, and meetings.

    • Organized the Columbia University GIS User Group, GIS Day events and other meetings.

    • Designed events and advertising materials including ads, mailing lists, and other resources.

    • Submitted a Proposal to Create The Columbia GIS Certificate to the School of Professional Studies.

    • Organized the Apps for APPs GIS meeting with participation from Columbia University’s Graduate School of  Architecture, Planning, and Preservation School and ESRI New York.

 

  • Visiting Lecturer. Herbert H. Lehman College of the City University of New York - CUNY.  Department of Environmental, Geographic and Geological Sciences.  The Bronx, NY.  2009 – 2011.

    • Taught courses in GIS, environmental planning, medical geography, and urban studies.

    • Developed lectures, presentations, labs, exams, and special events for the department.

    • Conducted course assessment and evaluation and presented my findings in a report which was selected by the Lehman Faculty Association as best submission among faculty peers.

    • Organized GIS Day event and special activities including a Cartography Exhibition.

    • Liaised with GIS industry leaders and other GIS professionals.

    • Provided student advising and interdepartmental support.

  • Visiting Assistant Professor. University of New Orleans.  Department of Planning and Urban Studies.  New Orleans , LA.  2007 – 2008. 

    • Taught courses in GIS and Environmental Planning.

    • Developed curricula, lectures, exams, study guides and GIS training manuals.

    • Provided research and GIS services to local community organizations.

    • Directed research activities, including geodatabase development and GIS training to complete a Local Neighborhood Signal Study.

    • Managed the GIS Lab for the Department.

    • Provided student advising and consultancy.

 

  • GIS and Map Research Librarian.  Florida International University (FIU).  The Green Library. The GIS and Remote Sensing Center.  Miami, FL.  2005-2007. 

    • Conducted data needs assessment and data modelling to develop data dictionaries for several projects including the Andean Amazon GIS Web Portal (AAGWP).

    • Liaised with scholars from Latin America, the Caribbean, and other Florida universities.

    • Supervised student interns and managed several GIS and remote sensing projects.

    • Translated original web content into Spanish for the Digital Library of the Caribbean (dLOC)

    • Examined the interrelationships that existed between the distribution of medical services and the state and county populations to write in 2005 "Distribution of Medically Underserved Areas and Populations in Florida -MUAP", a report FIU referenced to obtain a multimillion Dollar State grant to build the first public medical school in south Florida. (Funded)

    • Wrote reports about the "Distribution of the Elderly Population of Florida" and adult educational facilities for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute to prepare a grant application to create new adult education courses. (Funded)

    • Conducted site analysis of FIU’s northern campus for the Office of the University’s President.

    • Drafted floor plans to assist the library management team with the redesign of the Green Library’s public spaces.

    • Designed the original Maps and Information Center lab layout and the map archival system.

    • Digitized local neighborhood boundaries to populate an interactive GIS portal created for the Miami-Dade Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO).

    • Co-authored training in Thinking Spatially in the Digital Information Age Workshop II: Geospatial and Environmental Data for Latin America and the Caribbean. 2007.

    • Wrote a GIS Training for Librarian. An introductory series of labs on the use of GIS and other geospatial applications for libraries and other institutions. 2006.

    • Provided one-on-one and group consultancy to students, faculty, and other FIU personnel.

    • Managed a large GIS-Day event. Created visuals and other event related materials.

    • Conducted GIS research and analysis to complete fishery mapping and port maritime studies.

    • Responsible for geospatial analyses and the production of maps and other cartographic products.

  • Train the Trainer Teacher.  Herbert H. Lehman  of the City University of New York – CUNY.  Department of Middle and High School Education.  Bronx, NY.  1998-2000.

    • Created and taught Curriculum Development Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for Neighborhood Analysis.

    • Funded by the New York State Department of Education, Dwight D. Eisenhower Title IIA, this train-the-trainer 3-credit course provided knowledge and skills in GIS to high school teachers.

  • GIS Analyst. Eugenio Maria de Hostos Community College of the City University of New York - CUNY. The Center for a Sustainable Urban Environment. The Bronx, NY. 1995 – 1997.

    • Participated in the development of the first USEPA funded community GIS project in the US.

    • Conducted research and analysis of Community Based Organizations (CBOs).

    • Developed training labs in GIS and Environmental Planning.

    • Co-authored The Bronx Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) and other community training materials as part of the grant deliverables to the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA).

    • Taught Computer Literacy for Adults, a non-credit course designed for working professionals and returning college students.
